I don’t have to keep this tumblr up for class anymore, but I’ll still put up stuff ‘cause I can.
Take Me to the Unicorn
I’ve been playing around with the idea of fairytales and fantasy a lot lately.
Lots of pink and glitter and magic.
Little girl fantasies.
I’ve always had a thing for aliens.
When I was in elementary school, my friends and I would spend most of our free time in the library looking at the extraterrestrial and supernatural books, and we would camp outside one of our back yards under the bare sky keeping our eyes pealed for UFO’s.
When I lived in Venezuela, my parents had a clothing company called “No? Yes!” and it makes me really happy whenever I find merchandise like pens or bags or this sticker around the house. And then the sticker of the Queen, I got really excited when I found it, because I’m going to go study abroad in London this fall.
So the collage is a little bit of my past and my future.
Kind of like a self portrait?
I like making little digital collages when I’m bored or when I’m blocked in whatever I’m working on. I made this one using an old postcard from my collection, some old stickers I scanned a while ago, and a character from a film still from Moonrise Kingdom. He’s searching for his lover.
I have a collection of old postcards from the 70’s and 80’s. My favorite one is the one of the geisha’s in the middle of San Francisco. Postcards are really cool because they’re like a little snapshot of a certain location, but they get to travel to wherever they want.
I was walking around an empty Doak Campbell stadium with a friend when we found shattered security glass covering an entire section. We don’t know where the glass came from, but because we found it during the magic hour, it looked beautiful in the setting sun. Like giant pieces of glitter. Or crystal. So of course we had to take some with us. I combined the glass with a mask I
stole from got at a campus event. A bit of ribbon later, and it makes me feel like superhero.
My brain hurts.
These floppy discs I’ve hoarded for years are perfect bases for tiny collages. Very fun.
